Reading Assignment

During your break I would like for you to prepare a presentation on a chapter from How to Read Literature Like a Professor. As we have seen in small doses, this book is fabulous overview of information that is key to a deeper understanding of literature. Your job is to do the following:

1.    Post to Moodle during the break about your chapter. I have prepared a question for your response – extra points will be awarded for your thoughtful response to a classmate’s posting in addition to your own.

2.    Design an 8 ½ x 11 “poster” containing the following information:
a.    Title of Chapter properly punctuated
b.    5-8 bulleted points containing key information from chapter
c.    a graphic that is representative of the content in your chapter
*the information contained in your “poster” should only follow the CRAP guidelines ? and should be professionally presented…let me know if you need clarification on what that does or does not mean…

3.    Prepare a 2-3 minute presentation on the key information from your chapter. Be prepared to present the week we return.

For those of you absent:

Write a character analysis of Miss Emily in “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner.  Include details from the story that reveal the following issues: what other people thought of her, what Miss Emily said and did, what the narrator tells us directly about Miss Emily, how Miss Emily’s setting reflects her character.  You must include your opinion on Miss Emily’s motive for her crime.

We are getting ready to begin our Boot Camp unit with short stories. Read and be prepared to discuss character in “A Rose For Emily“ (page 79-85 in Anthology) on Tuesday. There will be a reading quiz over the story.
