"I must have flowers, always and always"

-Claude Monet

Hi! I’m Heather, and I’m so happy you stopped by! I started Mrs. Barnes as a creative outlet to share simple, seasonal recipes and entertaining tips for the modern day woman. Adulting can be tough, as any millennial knows, and I wanted a resource for how to host a dinner party like your grandma so effortlessly did.

I believe that dinner is the most celebrated meal of the day. Connecting with friends and family over a meal is slowly becoming a lost art. In a world of optimizing time, and staring at our phones, human connection and conversation is slipping away. I aim to recapture it!

About
Mrs. Barnes

I grew up in a family of entertainers. Music, dance, and parties were a large part of my life. I quickly caught the acting bug and moved to LA to study theater at USC.

Shortly after college, I fell in love with cooking and enrolled in culinary school at the New School of Cooking in Los Angeles. There, I learned to toss a recipe aside, and cook by taste! Watching one food documentary after the next, and being surrounded by vegans in Venice Beach, right after finishing culinary school, I enrolled at Matthew Kenney’s Plant Lab- raw vegan school. Who knew you could make anything with cashews and dates!

You may call me an old soul, or a romantic at heart. My happy place is my home, listening to old records, thumbing through a vintage cookbook to revive a recipe from the past, or questioning my grandma about her homemade vanilla custard. We still can’t find the original recipe!

I believe that there’s beauty everywhere if you simply stop and slow down. And you can never have enough flowers. As Claude Monet said, “I must have flowers, always and always.”
